Over the past five years of work at Penn State I have grown as a person in ways I could have never anticipated when entering college. One of the primary reasons I chose the Architectural Engineering program was the opportunity that this thesis project provides. For four years I looked forward to the opportunity to prove my knowledge through this immersive project and it has not disappointed. The experience of the past year is one that I will not soon forget and I look forward to putting the skills I have learned to use in the near future.

This project could not have been a success without the help of the AE faculty and industry contacts which have provided me with guidance this past year. I am especially thankful to my academic adviser, Dr. John Messner, and contact at the project site, Matt Karle. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude toward my parents for their love and support over the past five years of schooling. I would not be the person that I am without them!

Final Reflection

  • Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Casey Bird. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
